Wendy Newton

Qualified Scottish Tourist Guide Association Green Badge Guide for the Highlands, specialising in the North and East coast areas.

My family has been working the land in Scotland for generations, historically as sheep and cattle farmers, but the new generations have turned to golf and hospitality for their careers. I was a little different and travelled the world as an engineer, but when a posting brought me back to the Highlands we couldn’t leave and we made our family home in Caithness.

Living in a county with an incredible and diverse history, I have an strong interest in archaeology, taken part in a number of 'digs' and have a Master’s Degree in Classics so can interpret many of the human created and natural features of our landscape for you. I spend my sparetime researching and collecting stories of highland life, both historical and modern and I will enjoy sharing these with you.

My decades of experience as a cruise ship passenger, taking excursions on port visits has given me an insight into making the most of a day ashore so let me help you get the most out of shore-time.  You will have great stories to share at dinner after a day ashore with me. For those with a little more time and arriving in the highlands by other methods, I can design an itinerary to help you experience the ‘must-sees’ as well as those interesting little places that larger tours can't get to.
