Specialities: Landscape, History, Whisky, Geneaology, Golf
I have shared the delights of Scottish life and landscape with visitors to the country for over thirty years. As a professional geologist I began my guiding activities in the 1970’s when I led field trips and study tours to some of the most wild and beautiful places in the Highlands and Islands.
Over the next twenty years my knowledge and understanding of the history and culture of all things Scottish has made me much in demand for summer schools and lectures by some of Scotland’s Universities, both ancient and modern. Subjects ranging from whisky and water to Scottish Country Houses, Golf and Genealogy have entranced and entertained locals and visitors alike. I am a Blue Badge member of the Scottish Tourist Guides Association, the only professional geologist to be fully qualified to guide throughout Scotland. I am also a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.
½ day / 1 day / extended / UK
My speciality is the German market, but I also take on other groups. I look after many parties coming into Scotland, and am flexible with the meeting place. I will don the traditional Scottish outfit for you. I can guide you in the main cities and countryside of Scotland, and have a special interest in theology, so I can do an interesting church tour for you. I have some Scottish poetry in German, which you might find interesting. But I can do most types of tour: castles, lochs, whisky, mountains, cities, etc. I may even have some shortbread. Just let me know.
1 day / extended / year-round / driver-guiding
A native Scot from the south west Highlands, I now live in Morayshire. I have worked for the Scottish Health Service and travelled frequently and extensively throughout the Highlands for the past 20 years often orienting new employees to the region. I learned German over a period of 7 years as a soldier in the British army in Germany between 1965 and 1972. I am proud of our Highland heritage and culture and knowledgeable about its current social and economic situations.
I am an avid skier, a keen golfer and enjoy most outdoor activities. My interests include postage stamp collecting, historic buildings, my 5 grandchildren and classical music.

STGA Blue Badge Guide
Specialities: Wildlife and Walking
I am Lowlander by birth but a Highlander by inclination. I started my guiding career in 1995 with two years at Aigas Field Centre, just outside Inverness. I continued guiding groups in my various jobs after that. I moved back to the Highlands in 2005 and in March 2006 I started Red Kite Tours.
My main interest is wildlife guiding, but soon after I started guiding I realised no wildlife in Scotland lives beyond the influence of people. So I needed to understand the history, folklore, geology and place names of the Highlands to successfully interpret the exceptional landscape and wildlife found here to my guests.
½ day / 1 day / extended / year-round
Originally from Offenbach/Germany, I moved to Scotland in 1994, trained with the Scottish Tour Guide Association, and have been guiding since 1995. While in the past my work predominantly comprised extended tours I now mainly guide day tours in the Highlands as well as the occasional 2-3 day tour. I am experienced in a wide variety of tours (general interest/study/agricultural etc.) and it is important to me to tailor my guiding to the groups’ particular needs. I especially enjoy sharing with my groups what it is like to live in this wonderful country.

I take great pleasure in describing my country to visitors and have an in-depth knowledge of the flora and fauna and the built and natural landscape.

Specialities: British & Latin American/Spanish History especially Royal Navy/Military
Born in Edinburgh but spent formative years in Argentina and Chile returning to study in the UK (1958) and joining the Royal Navy (1964-93). As a bi-lingual Spanish speaker I qualified as an RN Spanish Interpreter and was very active in this role after the Argentine surrender at end of the Falkland Islands conflict in 1982. Returned to Scotland in 2007 but have been visiting the Highlands for the past 40 years as am married to a Campbell. Have now been guiding for a few years and have thoroughly enjoyed showing Spanish-speaking tourists the beauty and the history of this region.
Day, half-day tours. Weekends and school holidays only.
I have lived in the Highlands for most of my life and have spent many years visiting and learning about the natural and cultural history. As a local Geography Teacher I’m good at presenting information and can offer a great Highland experience. Walks, wildlife, cultural or natural history can all be covered in an easy to understand manner. I look forward to guiding you in the Highlands.
½ day / 1 day / extended / year-round / driver-guiding
The North East of Scotland has been my home since 1984. I moved here from Germany, my native country, being attracted by Scotland’s natural beauty and remoteness. Although I am an engineer by profession, I prefer working with people and have been intensely involved with group work in a variety of settings, here and abroad, ever since I moved here. I have travelled a lot, over extended periods of time, but always love returning home to Scotland. Here I am reminded that so many more treasures can be found right on my doorstep.
Day and half-day, extended, year-round
I graduated with an honours degree in German and French from Aberdeen University, during which I spent an academic year at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, and went on to teach English in Lausanne, Switzerland. On my return to Scotland, I worked in the Scottish tourism industry at national and regional levels. Since moving to the Scottish Highlands in 1995, I have been tour guiding and lecturing in tourism. I specialise in German and French speaking markets, with a primary focus on cruise ships and corporate groups. Additionally, I act as local agent for ground-handlers organising shore excursions.
