Half day, full day, all year round

I worked as a guide at Inveraray Castle doing tours in French and German for several years. I have also worked as a coach tour guide in English, French and German for the last two years. I have always had a particular interest in history and it is very rewarding when you can bring it to life for other people and spark an enthusiasm for our beautiful country. Since I started to work as a guide, I have enjoyed learning about flora and fauna, archaeology and the geology of Scotland and sharing my knowledge of Scotland with visitors.
I was born in Paisley and have lived most of my adult life in Dunoon in Argyll. I graduated from Strathclyde University with a degree in French and went on to teach French for many years. I have since qualified in German and have a First-Class Honours in German from the University of the West of Scotland. I have maintained my fluency in French and German by attending courses at the Alliance Française and the Goethe Institut in Glasgow.

Half Day / Full Day / All Year Round

I have lived permanently on the Black Isle since 1988, when I came to live with my Grandparents and attend Inverness College.
I have, however, been coming to the Black Isle since I was 18 months old and it has always been home. My teenage years were spent in Germany where I became reasonably fluent in the language. I had not used it in years, but picked it up again when I began guiding for cruise ships in the summer of 2018. I am currently studying for a BA(Hons) in Gaelic Scotland with UHI focusing on language, history and culture of the Highlands and Islands. I also volunteer at Culloden Battlefield. I love the outdoors, history and am a shameless fan of the Outlander books. I run guided walking tours of the villages on the Black Isle and guided walks with ponies in the forestry of the Black Isle. I enjoy extending a warm Highland welcome to all our visitors.

Born and raised in Speyside, the heart of Scotland’s malt whisky country, my family heritage spans whisky and the traditional fishing communities of the Moray Firth coast. I’m a whisky insider, having worked in several world-renowned Speyside distilleries, gaining in-depth knowledge of the craft and passion of whisky-making and with a few stories to tell!

Et pour les francophones qui partent à la découverte de cette belle région, je parle français.

I’m a trained and accredited Green Badge Guide with the Scottish Tourist Guides Association and hold World Host accreditation for customer service. As well as my on the ground whisky experience I’m qualified in Spirits through the international Wine and Spirit Education Trust, undertaking my studies in French. My background also includes a PhD in French, roles with City of Edinburgh tourism and a main career in the university sector. Now I’ve come home to my roots in Speyside, drawn back by this beautiful region. I love being outdoors, taking photos, delving into the past and exploring family history. A little whisky tasting doesn’t go amiss either.

But most importantly – I love where I live – it’s why I came home. Whether your interest is whisky, family history or stunning landscapes and fascinating history, it’s all here on Speyside. Nothing would give me greater pleasure than to share my Speyside with you.

I was born and raised in the Highlands, inheriting the mantle of Seanachaidh (or Storyteller) from my mother. From earliest times I learned the span of Highland history, culture, flora and fauna. I later studied Geography, Geology and Scottish History at Glasgow University.
Mixing these ingredients with Guide training, entertainment and humour allows me to create successful tours to some of the most stunning locations in the country. I am also qualified in Ancestral Tourism, and have written a number of books including “Roots of Stone” and “Culloden Tales”. Why not take a trip in my fully-insured, roomy 7-passenger people carrier?

I was born and raised in Aberdeenshire and in addition to English, I am a native “Doric” speaker – ye ken! and happy to translate for you.
Tourist guiding has offered me a different focus for my professional skills following early retirement from a long community-based career working with people throughout the Moray, Speyside and Aberdeenshire areas.
My love, knowledge and familiarity of my native landscape, people, culture, heritage and especially its food and drink! has been fine-tuned with an STGA (Scottish Tourist Guides Association) North Highlands: Green Badge qualification.
Allow me to welcome you and share, explore and celebrate Scotland with you.
