I have lived in and loved the Scottish highlands for fifteen years. A second generation Australian, born into a long line of Scots who maintained the strong traditions and culture of Scotland. My love affair with the ancestral homeland began nearly forty years ago during a back packer holiday here. After many holidays here through the years after, I could not withstand ‘the pull’ any longer and became one of the returning diaspora in 2003. Having tour guided in Australia, Britain and Europe part time I made the move to gain my Scottish accreditation and thoroughly enjoy sharing the history and beauty of Scotland. I specialise in shore excursions from cruise ships, genealogy and research tours, Outlander tours and tours tailored to specific interests which include Scottish history, amazing mountains, glens and lochs, dramatic coastline and clan links to our turbulent history. My enduring interests are photography, travel and genealogy which I love to share with our guests!

I have shared the delights of Scottish life and landscape with visitors to the country for over thirty years. As a professional geologist I began my guiding activities in the 1970’s when I led field trips and study tours to some of the most wild and beautiful places in the Highlands and Islands.
Over the next twenty years my knowledge and understanding of the history and culture of all things Scottish has made me much in demand for summer schools and lectures by some of Scotland’s Universities, both ancient and modern. Subjects ranging from whisky and water to Scottish Country Houses, Golf and Genealogy have entranced and entertained locals and visitors alike. I am a Blue Badge member of the Scottish Tourist Guides Association, the only professional geologist to be fully qualified to guide throughout Scotland. I am also a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.

From early days youth-hostelling in the Highlands I have enjoyed climbing and for 50 years I have skied in Scotland and the Alps. I have produced booklets selling in Grantown Museum: “Battle of Cromdale, End of the 1st Jacobite War in the Highlands” and provided Gaelic Meanings for OS Explorers 418 & 419 (with Neil Campbell’s help). As Customs & Excise Officer I worked in over 60 distilleries; later I collected game from Sporting Estates. I have experience of leading Germans walking in Strathspey and enjoyed conversation auf Deutsch. I enjoy living in the Highlands and sharing that experience with visitors.

Since moving to the North Highlands I have become passionate about the area and find nothing more enjoyable than sharing my knowledge with those wishing to enjoy this magnificent land. Having explored the area for many years, I like to share not only the splendid attractions but also the hidden gems that are often just off the main road. As a keen ornithologist I never cease to be amazed by the rich birdlife the area attracts. I have a keen interest in how the area developed from the Bronze Age through the Picts and Vikings up to the more recent times. Running a very successful self-catering holiday lodge business I am always ready to give advice to help all visitors get the utmost from the time spent in this wonderful part of Scotland and offer private tours tailored to individual needs and requirements.

Half day / 1 day / year-round.

Specialities: Hiking, Nature, Scottish History.

I have lived in the Scottish highlands on and off for over 30 years. For 12 of those years I lived in Chamonix in the French Alps, for I am not only a Tour Guide, but I am also a Mountain Guide and was one of the first British woman to stand on the summit of Mount Everest. Needless to say I love mountains, but particularly Scottish ones. Wherever I travel in the world I always long to be back here, for the Scottish landscape is where my heart resides. In particular I love the Gaelic language and the way it gives meaning to the landscape through place-names, giving an insight into the people who lived on and worked this beautiful land over the centuries.

Whilst enjoying the breathtaking scenery of Scotland, we will entertain you with enthralling stories of the people who once lived in the places we visit.  And, if you are eager to discover more about Highland dress, Highland games and other customs particular to Scotland, we will certainly satisfy your curiosity.

My photo shows one of my favourite Highland views, looking down Loch Shiel. By the loch is the Glenfinnan Memorial, commemorating the start of the 1745 Jacobite Uprising under Prince Charles Edward Stuart.
