Day Coach and half-day; Driver Guiding

Specialities: Driver Guide, Castles, Prehistory
I have a great interest in the early Celtic peoples of Scotland and that romantic era before the Battle of Culloden when clan chiefs controlled the Highlands. My specialities are castles, battle sites and clan lands. I wrote the guidebook for Dunnottar Castle and the Colin Baxter book on Clans and Tartans. Having spent many years in the Highlands, I now live in the Borders and provide driver/guiding all over Scotland. Winter months are spent arranging holidays for those visiting their clan lands or staying in Scottish castles. I write an occasional blog: Living with Clans and Castles.

Former wildlife manager, now professional storyteller, I am an Italian with Scottish ancestors and “my heart is in the Highlands”. You and your children will travel to a land of magic. The amazing landscape, the people, the legends and mysteries of who was here yesterday, today and how we will shape our future.

Occupation, vocation, passion: art, culture and history have always intrigued me and for a long time their interpretation has been a source of personal inspiration.

I grew up in the cathedral city of Saint Gall (Switzerland), where I was already guiding visitors around my hometown at a young age. During my 20 years as a customer adviser for a Swiss bank I regularly organised cultural events and expeditions for clients, often guided by myself.

As time went by, I more and more felt the urge to turn my passion into a profession – and there had always been this deep, mysterious yearning for the Scottish Highlands. So I opted for a change of both career and scenery and moved to the Highlands – it felt like coming home. Now, I share my love, fascination and enthusiasm for the dramatic landscape and history of my adopted home with visitors from a’ the airts and pairts of our world:

Lochs, glens, remote beaches, castles, ancient places, industrial heritage, distilleries, breweries, cheesemakers, cake magicians – there is so much to explore! I take individuals, groups and corporate guests on bespoke Highland adventures that will show the interesting, fun but also quirky aspects of these lands of outstanding beauty.

I have shared the delights of Scottish life and landscape with visitors to the country for over thirty years. As a professional geologist I began my guiding activities in the 1970’s when I led field trips and study tours to some of the most wild and beautiful places in the Highlands and Islands.
Over the next twenty years my knowledge and understanding of the history and culture of all things Scottish has made me much in demand for summer schools and lectures by some of Scotland’s Universities, both ancient and modern. Subjects ranging from whisky and water to Scottish Country Houses, Golf and Genealogy have entranced and entertained locals and visitors alike. I am a Blue Badge member of the Scottish Tourist Guides Association, the only professional geologist to be fully qualified to guide throughout Scotland. I am also a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.

I have lived in and loved the Scottish highlands forever! A second generation Australian, born into a long line of Scots who maintained the strong traditions and culture of Scotland. My love affair with the ancestral homeland led us to join the returning diaspora, in 2003. Having tour guided in Australia, England and Europe I gained my Scottish Tour Guide accreditation and thoroughly enjoy sharing the history and beauty of our dramatic Highlands. As a local, I offer excellent local knowledge which will enhance your experience here.

I provide shore excursions from cruise ships (Scrabster and Invergordon), step-on coach tours for companies, driver/ guiding for small groups and individuals and city walking tours (starting points are Thurso, Wick, Dornoch, Inverness or as agreed). The Highlands are a unique destination, blending the energy of our thriving capital city Inverness with the great outdoors on the doorstep. The north is a superb area of heritage and culture, not to mention mysts, myths and legends that abound. Have you heard about the Selkies?

My most popular special interest tours are: North Coast 500; Inverness and Loch Ness; Clan Genealogy; Clans, Cairns and Castles; WW2 in Caithness; Footsteps of the Queen Mother in Caithness; The Caithness Experience; Highland Whisky Trail; Pictish Trail; and Highland Outlander.

Standard tours or tours tailored to your specific interests, will enthrall you with our amazing mountains, lochs and glens, dramatic coastlines and wildlife and clan and Viking links to our turbulent Scottish history. I look forward to welcoming you to our dramatic Highlands, and to turning your touring dreams into a reality!
