1 day / extended / year-round / driver-guiding

A native Scot from the south west Highlands, I now live in Morayshire. I have worked for the Scottish Health Service and travelled frequently and extensively throughout the Highlands for the past 20 years often orienting new employees to the region. I learned German over a period of 7 years as a soldier in the British army in Germany between 1965 and 1972. I am proud of our Highland heritage and culture and knowledgeable about its current social and economic situations.
I am an avid skier, a keen golfer and enjoy most outdoor activities. My interests include postage stamp collecting, historic buildings, my 5 grandchildren and classical music.

HOSTGA

Day / half-day tours; all year.

I was born and raised in Detmold, Germany, where I started my career in hotel management and moved to Ireland before coming to Scotland in 2007.  After a while I started taking friends and family around the country and to all my favourite places, which got me interested in taking up tour guiding.  Over the years I have developed a keen interest and therefore knowledge in contemporary Scottish culture, castles, whisky, wildlife and Highland/Jacobite history.  I love the sheer beauty of the Scottish landscape, the rough mountain tops, deep lochs, beautiful coastal routes and wild moors and enjoy the opportunity to take a trip around the country any time.  My hope is that at the end of my tours my guests can understand and comprehend the love I feel for Scotland and why I have chosen it as my new home.

Raised in Germany, I have been very much at home in Scotland since my marriage in 1973. Spent more than two decades living on remote sporting estates with my (late) Highland (stalker/gamekeeper) husband and family in Argyll, the Borders and Caithness, working in broadcasting, marketing and as conference interpreter and technical translator. In latter years, living in beautiful Sutherland, I much enjoyed studying Scotland’s history, archaeology, flora and fauna in three degree courses. My heart is firmly committed to the Highlands, and I enjoy sharing some of its secrets with passengers from all over the world. My tours are peppered with topical snippets of information and grounded in thorough research. In partnership with Frank van Duivenbode, I can offer you tours of castle and botanic gardens, ancient woodlands, coastal lighthouses as well as tours of the legendary island of Skye.
Provided you do the preparatory genealogical research, we can take you on a custom-made trail of your clan or your ancestors. If you want to get married in the Scottish Highlands, we’re happy to explore some options with you.

Occupation, vocation, passion: art, culture and history have always intrigued me and for a long time their interpretation has been a source of personal inspiration.

I grew up in the cathedral city of Saint Gall (Switzerland), where I was already guiding visitors around my hometown at a young age. During my 20 years as a customer adviser for a Swiss bank I regularly organised cultural events and expeditions for clients, often guided by myself.

As time went by, I more and more felt the urge to turn my passion into a profession – and there had always been this deep, mysterious yearning for the Scottish Highlands. So I opted for a change of both career and scenery and moved to the Highlands – it felt like coming home. Now, I share my love, fascination and enthusiasm for the dramatic landscape and history of my adopted home with visitors from a’ the airts and pairts of our world:

Lochs, glens, remote beaches, castles, ancient places, industrial heritage, distilleries, breweries, cheesemakers, cake magicians – there is so much to explore! I take individuals, groups and corporate guests on bespoke Highland adventures that will show the interesting, fun but also quirky aspects of these lands of outstanding beauty.

Since moving to the North Highlands I have become passionate about the area and find nothing more enjoyable than sharing my knowledge with those wishing to enjoy this magnificent land. Having explored the area for many years, I like to share not only the splendid attractions but also the hidden gems that are often just off the main road. As a keen ornithologist I never cease to be amazed by the rich birdlife the area attracts. I have a keen interest in how the area developed from the Bronze Age through the Picts and Vikings up to the more recent times. Running a very successful self-catering holiday lodge business I am always ready to give advice to help all visitors get the utmost from the time spent in this wonderful part of Scotland and offer private tours tailored to individual needs and requirements.

HOSTGA

Half- and full day coach tours. Walking tours. Year round.

I was born and brought up in a small crofting village near Plockton and have always expressed a great passion for my home, the Highlands of Scotland. After studying at Aberdeen University and travelling around different countries, I settled back in the Highlands, now living on a Caithness farm with my husband and two children. I have worked as a couuntryside ranger in the Caithness area for the last 16 years. This has given me valuable insight into the local wildlife, history and culture of the area.

From early days youth-hostelling in the Highlands I have enjoyed climbing and for 50 years I have skied in Scotland and the Alps. I have produced booklets selling in Grantown Museum: “Battle of Cromdale, End of the 1st Jacobite War in the Highlands” and provided Gaelic Meanings for OS Explorers 418 & 419 (with Neil Campbell’s help). As Customs & Excise Officer I worked in over 60 distilleries; later I collected game from Sporting Estates. I have experience of leading Germans walking in Strathspey and enjoyed conversation auf Deutsch. I enjoy living in the Highlands and sharing that experience with visitors.

Specialities: local history, landscape, land use

Born and bred on a family farm then educated in Moray I spent most of my life there although my work took me throughout the Grampian Region. I worked for over 35 years in different aspects of Scottish Law. I am passionate about encouraging visitors to see and experience the best (not necessarily the most expensive) about Scotland and our people. I try my hand at photography, golf, curling and skiing with varying degrees of success. I will assist with welcoming people into the area, tour guiding and itinerary planning for 1/2 and whole day tours. I can include lowland walking, gardens, castles but what I particularly like is tailor-made days for small groups.
