HOSTGA

Day and extended; driver guiding, wildlife, walking
Specialities: Mountain and walking guide with MLTB Certificate, PCV licence holder

Brought up in Scone, Scotland’s ancient capital, I now work out of its Highland Capital, Inverness, in summer. In winter I fly south with the ospreys and tour guide in Africa.
As a qualified mountain leader I specialise in guiding in the mountains, glens and along the coastline of the north west of Scotland. Walks vary from strenuous to gentle strolls; it is important to enjoy the countryside at your own pace.

I also driver/guide. With experience in adult education (albeit as a ceramicist!) I love to share the history, geography, fables and anecdotes of our rich heritage with our guests in Scotland.

HOSTGA

½ day / 1 day / extended / year-round

Scotland is my home since 2011. I love the Highlands and Islands and their people. And sharing my passion for the mountains and seas. When I’m not guiding I am sailing and hiking. I am guiding all over Scotland. The islands my heart beats for the strongest are the Outer Hebrides. These are indeed magical islands where you will see vibrating colours and feel very much at ease as you are far away from everything. Anything from Golfing, Wildlife Watching, Hiking, Visiting art galleries or just Unwinding in Nature is possible. Talk to me for inspirations and I´d be happy to assist.

The North East of Scotland has been my home since 1984. I moved here from Germany, my native country, being attracted by Scotland’s natural beauty and remoteness. Although I am an engineer by profession, I prefer working with people and have been intensely involved with group work in a variety of settings, here and abroad, ever since I moved here. I have travelled a lot, over extended periods of time, but always love returning home to Scotland. Here I am reminded that so many more treasures can be found right on my doorstep.

HOSTGA

½ day / 1 day / year-round
Specialities: Hiking, nature & the environment, Scottish history.

I’m Scottish and have had the privilege to live in the Highlands of Scotland since 1972. I love everything about here – the fascinating and turbulent history, the varied wildlife and nature, the cultural heritage, the amazing views and landscape and, of course, the wonderful people. As a Chartered Geologist and the former Geologist for the Highlands, I am especially well placed to tell you a wee bit about our rocks and the dramatic landscapes and their origins. I’m very much a “people person” and I look forward to welcoming you and introducing you to our wonderful Highlands, our history and culture, and to showing you the natural wonders of our amazing and unspoilt environment.

HOSTGA

Half day / 1 day / year-round.
Specialities: Hiking, Nature, Scottish History.

I have lived in the Scottish highlands on and off for over 30 years. For 12 of those years I lived in Chamonix in the French Alps, for I am not only a Tour Guide, but I am also a Mountain Guide and was one of the first British woman to stand on the summit of Mount Everest. Needless to say I love mountains, but particularly Scottish ones. Wherever I travel in the world I always long to be back here, for the Scottish landscape is where my heart resides. In particular I love the Gaelic language and the way it gives meaning to the landscape through place-names, giving an insight into the people who lived on and worked this beautiful land over the centuries.

HOSTGA

½ day / 1 day / driver-guiding including extended tours / year-round

Specialities:
Spectacular routes; ancient forts and magnificent castles; Neolithic cairns, standing stones from various ages and a trail of the amazing carved stones of the Pictish era; ancient woodlands and forests; native animals, birds and plants.

I was born in Hastings (south coast of England) to a Dutch father and English mother. Being very keen on walking and camping in the Scottish hills, I managed to get my first job in the Highlands in 1972 and never looked back. The Scottish Highlands is my chosen home and I can never get enough of exploring its hills and mountains, river glens and straths carved out by the ice age. I love the fascinating combination of sandy beaches, breath-taking cliffs and wide-open horizons. Thanks to our changeable weather, it’s never dull here.

I carved out a career in tree surgery and forestry work which has given me wide and varied insights into Scottish land use and a keen interest in ancient trees. Owing to its relative lack of industrial development, the Scottish Highlands is an area rich in archaeological sites many of which are missed by the uninitiated on the usual tourist trail. Although not an expert in geology, I have an abiding interest in the rock formations that make up our countryside. One of my hobbies is sailing and I have enjoyed many splendid coastal views from my boat. It won’t surprise you to hear that I love reading non-fiction literature about maritime history, whilst my favourite novelist is Patrick O’Brian.
With my partner, Brigitte Geddes, I can take you on spectacular tours of the Highlands including Skye. We can also arrange castle tours, garden tours and Outlander tours for you or take you on a trip exploring the history of your clan. Provided you do the preparatory genealogical research, we can take you on a trail of your very own ancestors.
If you are interested, we can give you lots of information on country life and the wild outdoors introducing you to our dramatic mountains, and our fascinating range of plants, trees and animals some of which we might spot on our way. I think that it is also important to give you moments of calm enabling you to enjoy the memorable sounds and sights of the Highlands and Islands.

Half Day / Full Day / All Year Round

I have lived permanently on the Black Isle since 1988, when I came to live with my Grandparents and attend Inverness College.
I have, however, been coming to the Black Isle since I was 18 months old and it has always been home. My teenage years were spent in Germany where I became reasonably fluent in the language. I had not used it in years, but picked it up again when I began guiding for cruise ships in the summer of 2018. I am currently studying for a BA(Hons) in Gaelic Scotland with UHI focusing on language, history and culture of the Highlands and Islands. I also volunteer at Culloden Battlefield. I love the outdoors, history and am a shameless fan of the Outlander books. I run guided walking tours of the villages on the Black Isle and guided walks with ponies in the forestry of the Black Isle. I enjoy extending a warm Highland welcome to all our visitors.

STGA

half day, full day, extended, year-round, step-on guiding, driver guide (vehicle hired according to client requirements)

Over 20 years ago I first fell in fell in love with the Highlands, when I started working in Morayshire and Speyside. I am now based on the West Coast just a few miles from Glencoe where I live with my wife and young family. Spare time is spent exploring the hidden Highlands with the kids, clambering over ruined castles, strolling along ancient paths or finding seashells along deserted beaches.

I am delighted to explore the country I am proud to call home with visitors from around the world. Helping them discover more about its landscape, legends and history.

There is so much to offer across the Scottish Highlands and I can help individuals, small groups, coach parties, and corporate clients to discover it. Whether you are looking for city tour of Inverness, a more in-depth tour of Culloden Battlefield and the Jacobites, a day excursion around beautiful Loch Ness, or an extended trip island hopping along the West Coast, I can help with a tailor-made tour.
