Skye McDonald CPD
Based in : City of Inverness
Languages spoken : ENGLISH, German, French

Day and extended; driver guiding, wildlife, walking
Specialities: Mountain and walking guide with MLTB Certificate, PCV licence holder

Brought up in Scone, Scotland’s ancient capital, I now work out of its Highland Capital, Inverness, in summer. In winter I fly south with the ospreys and tour guide in Africa.
As a qualified mountain leader I specialise in guiding in the mountains, glens and along the coastline of the north west of Scotland. Walks vary from strenuous to gentle strolls; it is important to enjoy the countryside at your own pace.

I also driver/guide. With experience in adult education (albeit as a ceramicist!) I love to share the history, geography, fables and anecdotes of our rich heritage with our guests in Scotland.

Mercer, Sandra CPD

Day and half-day, extended, year-round

I graduated with an honours degree in German and French from Aberdeen University, during which I spent an academic year at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, and went on to teach English in Lausanne, Switzerland. On my return to Scotland, I worked in the Scottish tourism industry at national and regional levels. Since moving to the Scottish Highlands in 1995, I have been tour guiding and lecturing in tourism. I specialise in German and French speaking markets, with a primary focus on cruise ships and corporate groups. Additionally, I act as local agent for ground-handlers organising shore excursions.

Johanna Schuster STGA-trained CPD

½ day / 1 day / extended / year-round

Originally from Offenbach/Germany, I moved to Scotland in 1994, trained with the Scottish Tour Guide Association, and have been guiding since 1995. While in the past my work predominantly comprised extended tours I now mainly guide day tours in the Highlands as well as the occasional 2-3 day tour. I am experienced in a wide variety of tours (general interest/study/agricultural etc.) and it is important to me to tailor my guiding to the groups’ particular needs. I especially enjoy sharing with my groups what it is like to live in this wonderful country.

Raised in Germany, I have been very much at home in Scotland since my marriage in 1973. Spent more than two decades living on remote sporting estates with my (late) Highland (stalker/gamekeeper) husband and family in Argyll, the Borders and Caithness, working in broadcasting, marketing and as conference interpreter and technical translator. In latter years, living in beautiful Sutherland, I much enjoyed studying Scotland’s history, archaeology, flora and fauna in three degree courses. My heart is firmly committed to the Highlands, and I enjoy sharing some of its secrets with passengers from all over the world. My tours are peppered with topical snippets of information and grounded in thorough research. In partnership with Frank van Duivenbode, I can offer you tours of castle and botanic gardens, ancient woodlands, coastal lighthouses as well as tours of the legendary island of Skye.
Provided you do the preparatory genealogical research, we can take you on a custom-made trail of your clan or your ancestors. If you want to get married in the Scottish Highlands, we’re happy to explore some options with you.

J. Grant Gebbie CPD
Based in : Edinburgh
Languages spoken : ENGLISH, German

½ day / 1 day / extended / UK

My speciality is the German market, but I also take on other groups. I look after many parties coming into Scotland, and am flexible with the meeting place. I will don the traditional Scottish outfit for you. I can guide you in the main cities and countryside of Scotland, and have a special interest in theology, so I can do an interesting church tour for you. I have some Scottish poetry in German, which you might find interesting. But I can do most types of tour: castles, lochs, whisky, mountains, cities, etc. I may even have some shortbread. Just let me know.

James Dunbar CPD
Based in : Boat of Garten, Inverness-shire
Languages spoken : ENGLISH, German

½ day / 1 day / extended / year-round

Specialities: Land Management, Farming, Forestry, Community Matters, IT

I started guiding in the mid 1980s and since then have largely dealt with German-speaking groups from Germany, Austria and Switzerland with the occasional English group. Back then these were mainly 7-day+ coach tours covering much of the UK but particularly Scotland (or Ireland) supplemented by occasional small driver guiding or larger incentive groups. Nowadays coach tours are shorter and concentrate more on Scotland and shore excursions from cruise ships calling at Scottish ports provide me with increasing business.
Whilst a guide is a jack of all trades my personal interests are Land Management/Farming/Forestry, Community Matters and IT.

I am a qualified Scottish Tour Guide Association Regional Affiliate.

Renate Chart CPD
Based in : Croy, Inverness-shire
Languages spoken : GERMAN, English

½ day / 1 day / extended / year-round

I was born and brought up in Düsseldorf, Germany. During my work with the Bank I was sent to the HLC Highland Language Center on the Black Isle to improve my English. I fell in love with the surrounding area. Also I found the Scots people very friendly and helpful. That made me more interested in learning about the history, fairy tales and the Clans.

Tony Cowan Martin CPD
Based in : Grantown on Spey, Moray
Languages spoken : ENGLISH, German

1 day / extended / year-round / driver-guiding

A native Scot from the south west Highlands, I now live in Morayshire. I have worked for the Scottish Health Service and travelled frequently and extensively throughout the Highlands for the past 20 years often orienting new employees to the region. I learned German over a period of 7 years as a soldier in the British army in Germany between 1965 and 1972. I am proud of our Highland heritage and culture and knowledgeable about its current social and economic situations.
I am an avid skier, a keen golfer and enjoy most outdoor activities. My interests include postage stamp collecting, historic buildings, my 5 grandchildren and classical music.
