I am a competent and experienced guide having spent many years leading groups on walking holidays in the Highlands. I was a Countryside Ranger for several years and therefore my interests lie in the environment and wildlife. It gives me great pleasure showing this beautiful country to visitors.

I am happy to organise and take groups/ individuals on walking holidays in the Scottish Highlands. This could be for one day up to a week. I am also available for driver/guiding

As a qualified mountain leader I specialise in guiding in the mountains, glens and along the coastline of the north west of Scotland. Walks vary from strenuous to gentle strolls; it is important to enjoy the countryside at your own pace.

I also driver/guide. With experience in adult education (albeit as a ceramicist!) I love to share the history, geography, fables and anecdotes of our rich heritage with our guests in Scotland.

I was born in the Spey side town of Grantown of a long established Highland family, and have spent all my life in and around the County town of Dingwall, on the Cromarty Firth. I am interested in the Highlands both historically and for its future prosperity. My long career in Local Government has seen me travel extensively throughout the Highlands and the Islands of the North and West and I am anxious to pass on local first hand information I have gained to visitors to the area. I would be particularly happy to discuss with prospective visitors what they would like to see as part of their tour.

I was born, brought up and have lived in Easter Ross in the Highlands of Scotland all my life therefore have in depth knowledge of the area. Having travelled extensively as a Tour Leader for over 20 years I believe that I have the experience to guide and inform groups and individuals about this beautiful part of the country.

Born and brought up in Cromarty, I attended the local HG School, and then went to Invergordon Academy. Jointly owning the Cromarty-Invergordon mail service with my father, led to early links with a tour group who used to charter our ferries for pleasure sailing and wildlife trips in the Moray Firth! I ran my boat alone at age 14, now you need a Master's Certificate to sail the Cromarty Firth!

Moving house after marriage took me to Culloden Battlefield as Assistant Warden, then Cawdor Castle as the Estate Ranger. In 1985 I joined the RNLI as Fund Raising Organiser Scotland (North) until 1997 when I had to retire.

So what next? A return to my roots -- back to the Cromarty Firth as a Trained Guide -- to luxury liners - 50yrs after my own ferry!

I am Lowlander by birth but a Highlander by inclination. I started my guiding career in 1995 with two years at Aigas Field Centre, just outside Inverness. I continued guiding groups in my various jobs after that. I moved back to the Highlands in 2005 and in March 2006 I started Red Kite Tours.

My main interest is wildlife guiding, but soon after I started guiding I realised no wildlife in Scotland lives beyond the influence of people. So I needed to understand the history, folklore, geology and place names of the Highlands to successfully interpret the exceptional landscape and wildlife found here to my guests.

The Highlands have been my home for nearly twenty years following many years working and travelling in foreign parts. Trained as an accountant I now have the pleasure of teaching English and French and showing my wild and beautiful country to visitors. I live in paradise with the mountains and moorland to look over me and the birds and the animals to keep me company. Let me show you Scotland.
